We began Magi Ancestral Supplements with the mission to revive and spread the wisdom of our Eastern ancestors, the Zoroastrian Priests of Ancient Persia and Daoist Shamans of Imperial China, in using mind-opening plants to raise human consciousness.  While the thought of undergoing a psychedelic journey or even beginning a meditation practice is daunting for many, the one most important activity we can do for a healthy brain and the Good Mind is something we all do every night.

The Importance of Sleep

When we discovered just how deep are the brain health benefits of the Espand-derived beta-Carbolines that we have been working with and their involvement in the nightly sleep cycle through the brain’s pineal gland, it was a no-brainer (pun intended) for us to create a natural sleep aid.

We named our original product Haoma Deep Sleep Aid out of reverence for the legendary divine elixir of truth that was used by Zoroastrian priests to visit the realm of after-death. R&D the Old Fashioned Way

Following the inspiration of legends such as Sasha Shulgin and Shennong, we constantly experiment ourselves with new blends of plant extracts, listening to our community for feedback.  While modern pharmaceutical development is centered upon the concept of “1 drug 1 target” for regulatory ease and pragmatism of drug development costs, ancestral medicines were always based on polypharmacology: the mixture of different compounds in order to purposely target multiple receptors.

While our community was grateful for deep sleep efficiency, many stated that they were looking for a natural product to help with insomnia.  In the process of self-experimentation, we discovered an exciting synergy that augments the brain’s deep sleep stage alpha-wave production through a mixture of Boletus edulis (porcini mushroom) extracts with Espand-derived beta-Carbolines.

Previously, we included the natural extracts of grapefruit and pomegranate – plants that have also been cultivated for more than 4,000 years and possess an abundance of antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties – to improve the bioavailability and speed of absorption of Espand-derived beta-Carbolines.  Not only do the antioxidants in Boletus edulis also improve the bioavailability of beta-Carbolines, but they also help you to fall asleep faster through their interaction with the brain’s glutamate receptors.

Thanks to the help of our Magi community, who are so gracious to volunteer to test new formulations, we discovered that this unique combination does indeed help to stay asleep longer with fewer midnight wake-ups; and, importantly, maintains the same deep sleep efficiency boost.

Macrodose

When it came time to launch v2 of our Deep Sleep Aid, we were also near the point of being ready to launch a product that so many in our community have been asking for: a macrodose formula!  We received nearly as many questions about how many doses of Stard Deep Meditation Supplement to take for an experience similar to yagé tea as we did about how many doses to take when combining with mushrooms for a psilohuasca experience or to enhance a classic microdose.

While we can’t recommend the use of our supplements with scheduled substances such as psilocybin, nor can we advise exceeding the daily dose with our supplements, we are cognizant of the fact that this is how many psychonauts are using our products today.  The precise dosage of Espand-derived beta-Carbolines in our Stard Deep Meditation Supplement was not designed for a psychedelic journey nor to pair with compounds such as psilocybin, LSD or DMT.

And so, we set out to formulate a macrodose with a different ratio of Espand-derived extracts at a higher quantity that would provide a more insightful and stochastic experience that is closer to a traditional psychedelic journey, and remain within the safety-tested limits that are generally regarded as safe (GRAS).  And just as notably would support harm reduction if not used as advised.  The use and intent of this product are closer to that of the legendary Haoma, and so we decided to rebrand our deep sleep aid in anticipation of releasing our first macrodose product.

Haurvatat

Haurvatat refers to the Zoroastrian concept of wholeness or perfection and is one of the 7 spentas (divine entities) that help guide and protect humanity in the pursuit of goodness.  Together with Ameretat, the spenta of immortality and inspiration for our Ameretat Neurogenesis Microdose, Haurvatat represents the Zoroastrian ideal of a perfect world of healthy balance.  

Sleep is often seen as a metaphor for death.  Many cultures from Ancient Egypt, to the Lakota and Cherokee Native Americans, to Ancient China believe that the soul leaves the body during sleep and travels to the world of after-death.  In this sense, sleep can be seen as a kind of temporary immortality.  And as well publicized by leading researchers such as Andrew Huberman and Gina Poe, sleep is the most important thing we can do to improve our chances of living a long and healthy life.
